Steven Heyman's paintings grow out of a sustained interest in, and contemplation of light, and his acknowledgement of the work of artists such as Morris Louis and Kenneth Noland. Close inspection of his lucent surfaces, achieved through multiple layers of acrylic varnish, reveals a methodical staining process. Central light forms and patterned matrices spring forth from fields of saturated, fiery color suggesting microscopic, cosmic matter.
