With 40 years of experience creating innovative ceramic cups and small sculptural forms, Ken Price has recently begun creating medium-sized painted sculpture. These abstract, anthropomorphic works not only compliment the triumphs of early modernists, but have the feeling of contemporary sculpture as well. Trained as a ceramist, Price is not locked into the rules of his craft. Each of his pieces is hand molded and fired slowly. Afterward, the works are painted with layers of acrylic paint that are chemically treated and sanded to achieve their rich, seductive patinas.
